Sandman started racing back in the late 80’s on the Amiga racing Indy 500. As the years went on he moved from PC to console, racing anything he could get his hands on.
In the early 90’s Sandman’s attention turned to R/C Racing when in 1994 he was crowned R/C NASCAR rookie of the year winning his first race in only his second start.
In 1996 he made the switch to slot car racing where his talent started to shine. In the 7 years of competition he won 13 championships but his career highlight was in 2001 winning the prestigious Peter Brock Trophy. Sandman finished off his slot car career in 2003 winning his final ever event, the Mobile Raceway 24hr endurance race in Dandenong.
In 2003 his online success kicked off on XBOX Live during the days of V8 Supercars where he won multiple races and 2 online championships along the way.
In 2004 Sandman began racing at Lilydale’s Hyper Stimulator centre where he won his first start at Hyper Stimulator winning the 2004 Hyper Le Mans 6hr. During his short time at Hyper Sandman won the 2005 Hyper B Division Road Racing Championship and won the 2005 Australian B Division Road Race Championship. He then backed up his championships in 2006 winning the Hyper A Division Road Racing Championship.
In 2007 he discovered rFactor and signed to race for Team Bundy in the V8 Supercars series at Adrenalin Factor. In his second season of competition Sandman Motorsport was born and in his third season he claimed his first V8 Supercar Championship. Sandman went on to win 4 straight V8 Supercar championships and 2 Bathurst crowns during his time at Adrenalin.
In 2009 Sandman began karting where he raced all over Australia driving in the Pro Kart Endurance Series. Sandman raced in events varying from 6hr, 8hr and 12hr events with mixed success.
In December 2010 he made the switch to iRacing where he spent most of his time league racing over at OMR.
Sandman is more commonly known at iRacing for his work in the commentary box at V8’s Online. He along with Jay Kennedy and Jason Bean has been broadcast the V8 Supercar series on a Monday night for many season now and enjoy giving iRacing V8 Supercar series the exposer it deserves.
On New Year’s Eve 2013 Sandman was announced as one of the newest members of TT-R. He signed a deal with the newly formed Trans Tasman Rising Stars programme and hopes his time at TT-R will be as successful and enjoyable as his career so far.
